Full Moon Hike
Join the Creation Care team for a full moon hike! It will be an adventure for the whole family, including story time, moon and constellation viewing, exploring your senses at night and learning about nocturnal animals’ nighttime adaptations. There will also be a weenie roast and s’mores!
The hike will be on Oct 22nd from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Joe Budd Youth Conservation Center. 639 Pond Rd, Midway, FL 32343. Please contact Arnie Rogers ([email protected]) if you have any questions. The hike is limited to 20 guests so click here to reserve your spot!

The Creation Care Green Team passed out vegetable seeds to parishioners following both, in house, Sunday Services. Gloria Colvin & Linda Rogers, volunteers at the IGrow Garden in Frenchtown, displayed starter plants that will be planted in the community Garden . They encouraged Trinity members to plant their seed packets and celebrate Earth Day, April 22,2021.

February 8, 2021: Suggested Books on Climate Care
Thank you for joining the zoom meetings during these past four weeks as we explore and discuss pertinent issues on climate care. We have been fortunate to have knowledgeable and most interesting speakers.
Wednesday night, 7:00, we will conclude Trinity’s Lay Academy with Sue Cerulean, a naturalist, caring daughter and keeper of St. Vincent’s Island. She will weave her experiences of caring for God’s creations together. It will prove to be a most interesting and sensitive session.
Trinity UMC is in the process of forming a ministry of Creation Care. Our intent is to engage our congregation in sustainability, gardening and sharing our immense natural resources in the local area. We hereby invite you to join in the coming weeks with topics of interest and ways that we can work together.

January 29, 2021: Start a Creation Care Ministry in 6 Simple Steps
Online Training to “Start a Creation Care Ministry in 6 Simple Steps” will take place on Friday, January 29 from 7 – 8:30 pm.
Many United Methodists care deeply about protecting Florida’s environment and follow their biblical call to live more sustainably. Some have formed church gardens that feed their neighbors who struggle with food insecurity. Others cherish spending time in nature and work to protect native habitats, sometimes in their own backyards. All of these activities and more make up a growing ministry called Creation Care, and the FLUMC Creation Care Task Team is offering a new, free online training called ‘Start a Creation Care Ministry in 6 Simple Steps.’ Experienced leaders will share how to begin a fruitful Creation Care ministry at local churches, and all FLUMC church members, clergy, and staff are invited to this online Zoom event

Join FLUMC Creation Care leaders for an hour of eco-inspiration over lunch.
TOPIC: Earthkeeper Training and the Creation Justice Movement
At the next Eat, Pray, Grow online meeting on January 26 from 12-1 pm, the FLUMC Creation Care Task Team will welcome Rev. Jenny Phillips to share the status of the national Creation Justice movement and explain the benefits of the UMC Earthkeeper training designed for clergy and laity who are ready to dive deeper into Creation Care ministry. Our two new Florida Earthkeepers, Sara Nussel and Kim Wendt, will also share their experiences from the last training.

January 13 to February 10, 2021: Lay Academy Presents Impressive Speakers on “Climate Change: Climate Care.”
What does current science say about climate change and its effects? What are Florida’s environmental regulations? How can citizens conserve, protect and recycle most effectively? How does the Green Faith Alliance promote and assist in the practice of sustainability? What are the spiritual relationships and responsibilities we share to care for the earth and each other? Experts on climate change and the care for our natural world will explore their responses to these questions and others relating to one of the most pressing issues confronting us as stewards of God’s earthly kingdom.

Service Opportunity – Divine Dirt
Through the Green Faith Alliance, Trinity is partnering with the iGrow Community Garden Movement. The iGrow is a Frenchtown based youth empowerment and urban agricultural program of the Tallahassee Food Network, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to grow community- based food systems to ensure food security and accessibility and providing healthy, affordable food for all.
The DIVINE DIRT project will help us build relationships with this traditionally underserved served community and foster racial harmony while we work together to grow food.
Under the supervision of Miaisha Mitchell, Trinity members work in the garden located at 611-Dent Street, Monday mornings from 9-11 a.m. Others working alongside us are members of the Green Faith Alliance, representing faith communities such as St Paul’s UMC, Temple Israel, Holy Comforter, and the Quaker community. All workers wear masks, gloves and maintain social distancing. They all bring their own water supply.
Throughout the summer months, members prepare new garden plots ,raised beds, water existing beds, weed, plant new beds, trim bushes and help maintain the garden space on Dent St.
Proposed fall garden projects are as follows: build new raised beds on available land, encourage more Trinity member participation, involve our youths to learn gardening skills, dialogue with community church members and neighborhood residents. Winter crops that are anticipated would be lettuces, collards, kale and other seasonal vegetables.
Times and day would be determined by the director as well as polling of Trinity volunteers. Produce from the garden would be distributed for the area residents or sold at other community gardens.
Our goals are to build awareness of sustainable food, healthy eating and cooking and work toward environmental, climate and social justice. By working together as ONE we can make this happen.
